We are going to see Curious George Live! this weekend. I was talking to Mr. Jones about how excited Hannah was about the event when he told me the story of the authors of Curious George. Apparently they were German Jews living in Paris when they fled the Nazi occupation on bikes carrying their manuscripts. The adorable monkey was first called Fifi… When the Rey’s traveled to America, the publisher suggested they changed the name to something more masculine… Hence, the name George. You can view a slideshow of The Jewish Museum’s exhibit of Curious George Saves the Day: The Art of Margret and H.A. Rey here.

Anyone who has ever hosted a seder knows the amount of work that goes into the preparation of the Passover tradition. They also know how hard it is to keep the kids interested and engaged in the event. I stumbled upon this awesome Haggadah that is sure to be a hit with kids and parents alike. Francine, the author, describes it as: ” like Taro Gomi’s Scribbles meets Hillel’s Sandwich”
I can’t wait to use it this year!

I have been a fan of Barbara Kingsolver ever since I read the Poisonwood Bible. After I finished reading that book (one of my favorites) I went in search of her other works. I was surprised to find a wide array of books that were very different from each other. I often read multiple works by one author. She is the first one who seems to take on a distinctly different voice for each book.
This sort of reminds me of myself. I have such diverse interests that continually evolve. If I wrote a book today and one five years from now, I am not sure they would recognize each other.
That is why I am so excited to read Animal, Vegetable, Miracle.
Maybe I will get motivated to plant even more in my garden…
